Finale!

Image
I know Bryan said it in class last week, but boy did the end of the semester smack me in the face. I feel a little beat up from the blow honestly... I was starting to find my groove with Rhino and now I'm feeling a bit butt hurt there won't be anymore Bryan classes. RIP me graduating before I could take 3rd year OBDF :-(  Here's a bit of a recap of the semester à la Danielle. First on the list we got Villa Cavrois - I nerded out pretty hard on that project so I will spare you the rant this time. Check the link if you want to re-read why you should have a hard-on for cool architecture. For a restart of my Rhino skills, I gotta say I was pretty pleased with the end result. Seems silly to have struggled with getting things to sit flush and on the ground plane but here we are now... growing up baby! https://thisisforobjects.blogspot.com/2020/09/villa-cavrois-castle.html Next was the surface design project, which I also was pretty stoked on (honestly, was there a project in this

Guillotime (lmao)

Execution time!!! Bad pun forcibly intended. I chose the guillotine ring for my final, although it was hard to choose between the three. If you want to check out my prototype models and a little over view of our speed dating crit head here --->  https://thisisforobjects.blogspot.com/2020/11/love-me-some-prototyping-and-proof.html Now, back again to number three on Danielle's Ultimate Frustration Tantrum List.... renders! Idk man, idk why Rhino hates my renders. I have tried to trouble shoot it with all the Rhino articles I can find, my renders still come out grainy as shit, the background colour is not even close to what I pick and the shadows look like someone is high on acid trying to shoot film in the dark. What a life. I'm definitely being dramatic but I have struggled so much with renders and I'm upset I had the same result for this ring. For the sake of not using screenshots, here they are: (Also if anyone knows the answer to my problem lmk, I'm sure it's

Love Me Some Prototyping and Proof Sheets!!!

I'm having way too much fun with this project. Last week I chatted with Veronika, David and Erica about my thumbnails and concluded with three fan favorites: guillotine, monster truck and a fork for stabbing your eyes out or for when someone says "stick a fork in me I'm done." I really enjoyed connecting with people in class, I feel like with so many midterm projects due I've been a complete mole and only talked to my microwave - shoutout to David for making me giggle!  I've been super stoked about my guillotine ring since I started modelling it and have been harassing everyone to look at it. It's fully functional, which I'm not sure will translate to the print but it was fun to model nonetheless. I added little pulley's on the top so you could actually tie some string thorough and it would drop the blade. You wouldn't get very much momentum unless it was spring loaded so I guess it's not fully functional, my dad suggested including a lit

It's Ring Time Baby!!!!!

So we are back and post cassette render-meltdown, feeling better and inspired by this new project. I am vibing HARD with this project, I'm really excited to see something through from concept to fabrication, and for the first time in a minute I have a bunch of concepts that I'm really excited about pursuing.

MICROCASSETTE FINAL(!) - Rev Engineered Milestone Project

Image
It's week four! That means we have a real life model! I'm so excited at how this turned out!! This milestone project was a heavy focus on recreating objects to scale using tools and skills learned during class. My object of choice was a microcassette that had come with an old tape recorder I found at an antique store. My biggest challenge with this project was definitely keeping myself invested, I have a very bad habit of starting off with a ton of energy and then as soon as I learn the skills well enough I have a hard time staying focused through the tedious and methodical parts. I had some minor measuring discrepancies that were sort of noticeable once I put the parts together, which was super frustrating and also a major pain to fix. That being said, I'm glad I rode the struggle bus for awhile because my render turned out sick. All in all this project seemed waaaaaaay more daunting than it really was, it's actually super impressive how much you can do with so few co

Reverse Engineered Progress 3!

Me again! I just realized as I was writing this that it's already 12am in Calgary but I have a severe issue with remembering the time change so please accept this apology for being a little late.  Progress! It's happening! Finally! This week I modelled the screws, little bits and almost all of Side B. I'm so close to being finished and I'm pretty amped. I need to make the sticker for the outside of the cassette, which I think might be easier to do in Illustrator if I can figure out a way to get it into Rhino and then just the two spools that hold the tape. I'm not sure how to approach modelling the wound up tape on the spool so I think thats going to be question hour, but after that FIN! (Can you tell I'm feeling extra exclamation pointy rn?)  Heres some progress pics from this week, I think this is going to look sick once it's rendered in clear plastic. I'm also on a bit of a roll right now so I might edit this as I keep going and add more pics.
